On July 10, 1918, Mr. Charles Kilburn transferred a tract of land to the local Methodist Church to establish a common community burial ground in Kingsclear.  Early settlers of African descent were also a part of this burial ground.  In 1965, the cemetery was relocated by the New Brunswick Power Commission to make way for the Mactaquac Dam.  Unfortunately, the graves of the African descendants were not able to be relocated as most were not marked.  A monument listing the family names of these descendants was commissioned and placed in the relocated cemetery which was now the property of the local United Church.

Over the years, the cemetery fell into disrepair and the monument toppled over. In 2011, local residents set out to reclaim the property and were eventually successful in having the Church turn it over to the current Board. Community volunteers have managed to cut trees and bushes that obscured the property from view, erect a new sign and move the monument for African descendants to the entrance of the cemetery.

Efforts to restore the property continue,
